Circuit City – Definitely Liquidating

CC is definitely liquidating. Going bye bye. Seeya later [not really] alligator!

Circuit City executives were unable to find a satisfactory buyer and were not able to refinance.

Here’s a bad part: All sales are going poof. Sad I am that I did not jump on CoD: World at War for $19.99. All prices are very much likely to restore to MSRP or higher. Even if they do liquidation sales, those prices are often actually marked up (sneaky liquidators!) from MSRP and even the store’s normal sale price.

All remaining locations of Circuit City will be liquidating – every single one of them. I’m kind of sad, because there is a CC very close to my house. It’s where I got my first iPod. It’s also where I almost bought my laptop to replace the old one I aptly named Beatrice. Best Buy made that sale.

Anyway, while the road has been tough for CC – they’ve made some pretty rookie mistakes. For example firing all of their experienced staff and replacing them with new hires and newer still-unexperienced employees that were naive to technology. You tried. You failed, but you still tried. For that, I salute you. [via AP]

Apple Allows Browsers In AppStore .. With a Catch

Apple has seemed to open its gates in the AppStore in regards to the “Duplicate Functionality” rule.

You see, there is a rule (graded at Apple’s discretion, of course) that says you cannot make an application for the iPhone/iPod Touch that duplicates native functionality. In the business scope, this makes sense. They don’t want their work duplicated as it would deter people from using their stuff. From a developer’s standpoint, it’s a very frustrating rule – it minimizes the ability for the software concepts to evolve.

However, as of late, Apple has quietly started allowing browsers to be added on their catalog. What’s the catch? Oh… well you see… the browsers must be based on the Safari codebase. Simply put, it basically must be an extended version of safari made by the developer. There are a few browsers already, for example Cognito, which allows you to browser the internet without leaving a local history.

Apple might be doing this so it does not lose any market share. So for now, no firefox, chrome or opera functionality.

Baby steps, I guess.

Something… But Not Quite Nothing

Jonathan has brought me aboard to publish great reviews and cutting room floor information about the latest and greatest technology. Later on this month, I will be writing a lengthy review for Microsoft’s newest piece of work, Windows 7, as well as reviews about and new games that will crop up this year, plus any new pieces of hardware I can get my hands on.

Make sure to check back here later on, as I’ll be making more posts about more awesome stuff :D

As if By Magic..

I can twitter from my cell phone?

Shh, Don’t tell T-Mobile!

McDonald’s Charges for Sauce Packets

Uhm. What?

It seems that, at least this McDonald’s, has started to charge for extra packets of sauce. Goodbye it is to courtesy sauce packets.  In my opinion this a bit of ludicris.  First off, this will simply cause more time at the register as the cashier will have to carefully ration off each packet and enter the exact amount in their POS/cash register. The point of getting something from fast food is that it is as quick and efficient as possible. Adding additional little tasks for the cashier only adds additional oppurtunity for failure.

Also, only  one packet for a six piece? Uhm. Lame. You’ll be lucky if you make a single packet last that long. Especially if you’re like me and dip your fries into the sauce too. That kind of sort of REALLY sucks. It’s going to drive people away, especially when we already have to penny pinch to begin with. This is stupid.

Also, notice something. It costs more if you get the sauce with the strips. You know.. the bigger longer chicken? So, you’re probably going to need more packets to eat this properly. How can you sell the exact same product for two different prices? I don’t think this policy will last too long.

Ugh, now I’m hungry.

Botched Windows 7 Beta Release Means Windows 7 Beta For All

I’m a little late to the game, but meh.

This past friday, Windows released Windows 7 Beta for public release. However, due to unanticipated (well, should’ve been anticipated, anyway) demand, the world brought the windows 7 web and distribution servers to their knees. There was a large amount of downtime involved due to the overwhelming load placed on Microsoft’s webserve division.

Honestly, I think Microsoft needs to think their launch strategy, including having mirrors and also distribute through torrenting. Someone please deliver a clue to their main office, please.

However, Windows 7 has restarted the download process and an because of the epic failure, has removed the previous download cap of 1.5 million downloads, and is now allowing unlimited downloads of the beta. I suggest that anyone interest grab one before something changes.

I haven’t personally gotten around to getting windows 7, but I will once I have a machine to put it on. I might put it on my old work computer.

Sprint Class-Action Suit

Here is away to get $90 or $30 back from Sprint.

There was a Class-Action suit brought against Sprint in regards to their ETF. If you were a customer of Sprint between July 1, 1999 and December 31, 2008 you may be entitled to a reward via settlement.

If you were charged an ETF,  you may get $90 (er… the ETF is $200.. but hey, it’s still money back).
If you did not cancel your subscription to Sprint because of fear of being charged of ETF, you may get $30.

I told my mom about this, because we had a Sprint account and she kept complaining of being overcharged, but couldn’t cancel because of the ETF. She doesn’t want the $30, so hey, I’ll take it :D

Here is a website you can file your claim on

50th Post!

So it’s been a while, thought I’d update my loyal blog readers.

Not too much is going on. I’m in my apartment – i have gas now. FINALLY. I still hate PECO. Watch this, I’m going to get a bill and it’s going to have the other guys stuff on it. We’ll see.

I had company over tonight, we watched spiderman and played Apples to Apples. It’s a cool game, but doesn’t work so well when you only have a three players. I would’ve had more, but it was storming and there were icey roads.

I also downloaded a few things for Firefox.

Mr. Uptime
This is a firefox extension that allows you to create watchlists of websites. it’ll periodically check the websites on the list to see if they are up. Also, you can have it check to see if it contains/doesn’t contain a specific text strings. So like, for example, if when a website responds (like its a very busy website that went offline) you can add it. Mr. Uptime will alert you with whatever method you specify. Also the string thingermabobber is pretty cool. For example, let’s say I’m waiting for a new product to launch – i can have it look for “Windows 7 – now available”, or if I don’t know what it would say when it is available, i could have it check and alert me when it doesn’t say “Windows 7 – temporarily unavailable” and what not. pretty cool. Useful in limited situations, but when those situations come, it’s definitly something you should have.

iimgg.com Tools
Actually, this type of tool probably has a lot of addons that do the same thing. But this was the first thing I saw. Basically this allows you to take a screenshot of a the entire page, the currently visible page, or a specified region on the page. You can then either upload it to iimmgg.com or save it to your disk. I needed to send my friend a list of my stats on CyberNations, and it’s a long page, so I just used this tool. Tadaa magic.

iPox Theme
I’m not much of a theme person. Or rather I haven’t been. I kind of got tired of the Firefox default theme, which while it honestly is friggen awesome, it just got boring. This theme is white-grayish and has some blue in it. The one thing I don’t like is the home button is the an icon of the ipod. If i get the time and can, I’ll change it. cuz it makes me look like a fanboy. And actually,  I have a zune… so…

PECO Update

It’s Friday, January 2nd, 10 business days after request was made….
